Marriott Suhkumvit, Bangkok
I was going to head to Vietnam for a quick run, but well, Rob screwed up the visa process and it did not clear in time for the booked flights or hotel. So.... I had to cancel. That left me with a quandary, go someplace else or head up to Bangkok early.I had booked another hotel for the stay, and the rate wasn't superb for me to go earlier. A hotel I had not stayed at before was showing up very reasonable, so I booked it a the Marriott Suhkumvit which is much farther down the road than I usually go.
Arrival
Being right next to the Thong Lor BTS station, getting there was pretty easy. When I arrived, they were out of suites on the hotel side but had apartments available in the residence side, and I was upgraded to a one room apartment (which is basically a one room suite). The Room
A nice room, it has a view basically of the hotel next to it, and the endless lines of people doing selfie or FOMO videos in their 12th floor pool.

Dining and Drinking
Now, here this place is killing it. It has the lobby lounge, 57th Street, which is the breakfast buffet dining and world flavors place, Chocolate Cake Company (for tea, cake, coffee, cake, and cake, a bit favorite of the young woman professional crowd), District Grill and Bar which has outstanding steaks and tons of wines, the pool bar Azure (I know, but we're not done yet!), and the final capping item, Octave Rooftop Lounge and Bar which is just mind blowing.Executive Lounge
The Executive Lounge here is quite the good place to have a drink at night, breakfast in the morning, tea/coffee during the day. Basically a full meal service in the evening. Nice large space with a conference room you can use too.Hotel Amenities
The hotel has a fairly regular gym, a spa, and a very resort feeling pool and water deck area.
Not even close to the biggest room on the floor, but still big
Suite type amenities, in a serviced apartment room
The steak place, and it definitely is"
Very western look and feel
Drinks! For those not looking for a full dining experience
Bread and oil, little too leavened for my personal tastes
The main event, it was tender, dripping, and oh so delicious
I declined desert because of getting fat, and they gave me this anyways
District drinks menu
Where the meat is cooked, perfectly
Some of the main fare menu at District
The wine room, shot 1
The wine room, inside
Little self care with treats
57th Street, more casual dining
And here we start the endless buffet
With Asian food staples
American carb sweetness
Noodles and stir fry
Meats, meats and meats
Indian food
Many many juices and liquids
More of the seating breadth
My first course that I forgot to photo before chomping in
And then sweet tooth indulgence
The Lobby Lounge, bar near the front desk
A nice curry for lunch at the Lobby Lounge
Your poolside drinking and snack needs handled here
With an acceptable selection of adultage
The incredible Octave (separate post in related posts below)
The best place for a drink in the entire lounge, and it was mine
A long lounge with lots of seating and it was never more than half full during my stay
Computer workstation for the 1 person in the world who didn't bring a laptop
Hey, let's have breakfast here!
The breakfast buffet is a smaller sampling of what is down in 57th Street
But it does have the best bits to eat
In the evening, the more adventurous food comes out
Good wine, acceptable mixers
Shrimp pasta, some disassembly required
Salads being quite popular these days
Tasty small little after meal treats
The meeting room you can use
The view looking south from the lounge
A good 50/50 mix of cardio and strength, you can please everyone
The spa, I did not use it, mainly I was working all night and barely awake when it was open
Lounge chairs and sun by a very large pool
Summary
I had barely looked twice at this hotel in the past when booking rooms in Bangkok, with all the luxury properties that abound. I missed out; this is also a luxury property and a very excellent stay. I have not experienced an extended stay or residences Marriott before, and it was a very pleasant experience, and a bit of a change from a regular suite.Octave is such an astounding rooftop bar, best I have visited in Bangkok. An amazing lounging-around pool, and the exec lounge is quite exceptional. Rob's Tip: Get a room with lounge access, I say this a lot, but it provides you options to eat at the buffet for breakfast at 57th also.
